Generic Pregabalin capsules — branded as Pregagesic, Nervigesic, Neuro Seliron and Pregacare. Used for neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia), partial seizures and generalised anxiety disorder.

About Pregabalin

Pregabalin is used to treat nerve (neuropathic) pain, certain types of epilepsy as an add-on treatment, and generalised anxiety disorder. It calms over-active nerve signalling in the central nervous system, which is what underlies its effect across these otherwise different conditions.

It is taken regularly (not just when symptoms occur), and the dose is usually built up gradually at the start. In many countries Pregabalin is a controlled medicine because of its potential for misuse and dependence, so it must be taken exactly as prescribed and never stopped abruptly — the dose is tapered down under medical guidance.

What it's used for

  • Neuropathic (nerve) pain — diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia
  • Partial seizures (add-on epilepsy treatment)
  • Generalised anxiety disorder

How to choose

Products differ by strength (150 mg, 300 mg, 450 mg). Treatment is usually started low and increased gradually, so the right strength depends on where you are in that process and your doctor's instructions. The various brand names contain the same active ingredient, Pregabalin.

Safety essentials

  • Do NOT stop Pregabalin suddenly — it must be tapered under medical guidance to avoid withdrawal.
  • Commonly causes drowsiness and dizziness; don't drive until you know how it affects you.
  • A controlled drug in many countries with a potential for dependence — take only as prescribed and never share it.
  • Use caution with alcohol and opioids — the combination can cause dangerous drowsiness and breathing problems.
  • Tell your doctor about kidney problems, mood disorders, or any history of substance misuse before use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stop Pregabalin suddenly?+

No. Stopping abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will usually reduce the dose gradually over at least a week.

Is Pregabalin a controlled drug?+

In many countries, yes — because of its potential for misuse and dependence. Take it only as prescribed and never share it.

How long until it works?+

For nerve pain and anxiety it may take some days to weeks of regular use to feel the full benefit, as the dose is usually built up gradually. Follow your doctor's plan.

Important: This is general information, not medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet and consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
