Vidalista 20 vs Vidalista 40: Understanding the Difference

Vidalista is a generic version of tadalafil, a medicine from the PDE5 inhibitor family used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It comes in more than one strength, and two of the most frequently asked about are Vidalista 20 and Vidalista 40. The number simply refers to the amount of active tadalafil in each tablet, but the practical implications are worth understanding before you assume "more is better".
What tadalafil does
Tadalafil works by relaxing the smooth muscle in blood vessels, which improves blood flow to the penis when you are sexually aroused. It does not cause an erection on its own; arousal is still needed. Tadalafil is well known for its long duration of action compared with some other ED medicines, which is one reason it is sometimes nicknamed "the weekend pill".
The core difference
The difference between the two products is the quantity of active ingredient per tablet:
- Vidalista 20 contains a moderate amount of tadalafil and is one of the most commonly chosen strengths.
- Vidalista 40 contains a higher amount in a single tablet.
A higher strength is not automatically more suitable. The right strength depends on your individual response, your general health, other medicines you take, and your doctor's assessment. Some people respond well to a lower amount, while others may be advised to adjust. Crucially, taking a stronger tablet does not improve arousal or desire and can increase the likelihood of side effects.
Possible side effects
Both strengths share the same potential side effects, which may be more noticeable at higher amounts. These can include:
- Headache
- Facial flushing
- Indigestion or stomach discomfort
- Nasal congestion
- Back or muscle aches
Most side effects are mild and temporary. Seek urgent medical help for an erection lasting more than four hours, sudden vision or hearing changes, or chest pain.
Important safety points
Tadalafil must never be taken with nitrate medicines (often prescribed for chest pain or angina), as the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. It also interacts with certain other medicines, including some used for high blood pressure and a group of drugs called alpha-blockers. If you have heart disease, low or uncontrolled blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, or a history of stroke, your doctor needs to know before you start.
You should not decide between strengths yourself. A doctor or pharmacist can advise which is appropriate, and they may suggest starting lower and reviewing how you respond.
Choosing between them
For most people new to tadalafil, a lower or moderate strength is the sensible starting point, with any change made under professional guidance. The goal is the smallest effective amount that works for you, not the strongest tablet available. If a moderate strength is not giving the result you hoped for, that is a conversation to have with a clinician rather than a reason to double up on your own.

The bottom line
Vidalista 20 and Vidalista 40 are the same medicine in different amounts. The difference matters because the correct strength is the one matched to you, not simply the largest.
